Crosscut fence zero clearance
I suspect that most here with Hammer K3 sliders have an outrigger with the crosscut fence at the farther end of the slider. This mod is for the K3s with the shorter sliders, such as mine, which is 49"/1250mm, which have the crosscut fence at the start of the slider.
The
problem I have with this crosscut fence is that it cannot be aligned
with the edge of the saw blade ala a zero clearance. If a sacrificial
board is attached to the front of the fence, the fence loses its
ability to be set to the angle scale.
Some of you may have
worked out a better method, but this is what I did ...
The
inside of the crosscut fence, with the shortened end of the extruded
aluminium ..
A
chunk of UHMW ...
… is bolted through and inserts into a tapped threaded hole ...
The UHMW expands when a bolt is introduced, and locks tightly within the extrusion.
This creates a zero clearance section ...
The steel hex bolt is out of harm's way, and there is clearance for the dust guard …
Note,
these ends are not intended to prevent spelching (breakout), but
rather to aid in lining up the ends of a board.
Another
zero clearance end was also made for the crosscut fence when sawing
at 45 degrees ...
Again,
the bolt looks close to the blade, but it is not in danger of being
struck.
